chinese good luck trees?

 We bought this tree and I know the idea is like a Chinese tree that is suppost to bring good luck and cabbage. It is a kind of braid ... and if the tree dies it means ur not having any luck with money products. Does anyone have reason to be?

 Is this dialect perhaps this tree (see photo)? Ficus benjamina?

 i heard once a week im doing that but it seems to be too much drinking-water....the leaves are falling off
