Looking for a smelly fertilizer
Q: My durable bed could use fertilizer, but I'm not sure when to do it or what to use. The apartment complex's landscaping service will be putting down mulch sometime in Hike. Do I fertilize before then or after? I'd like to find a fertilizer that is particularly smelly in hopes of keeping the neighbor's children out of it.
A: I use grainy, organic fertilizer once a year on my perennial beds, usually Espoma's Bloom-tone or something similar and usually around the end of March (just as the growing season is about to upon).
Fertilizer can go either under or on top of mulch. Either way, it'll gradually dissolve and respite down in rain to fertilize the plants slowly over a long period.
