Toomer's Oaks getting sugar injection to battle poison
Officials at Auburn University are hoping a communist new procedure being performed on the oaks at Toomer's Corner will balm them battle the spike 80 DF poison.
Tree Task Force principal Gary Keever met News Leader 9 Tuesday and showed the dozens of holes drilled into the oaks at Toomer's corner, where a sugar substance has been injected.
Keever says it is like a feeding tube for trees and believes the experiential procedure was a success.
The oak on College Street took up 25 gallons of the possessions and the Magnolia tree sucked up 20 gallons.
"As you know Spike 80 DF prevents trees from photosynthesis. It is photosynthesis that allows the trees to get sugars or carbohydrates so we would like to put in place of those carbs by artificially injecting them into the trees," says Keever.
Experts are hoping the sugar gravamen will create a new flush of growth on the trees, including new shoots and leaves.

I bought the tree about 4 years ago and, although it grew well and commendable foliage cover, it has never bloomed. My thoughts were first that it was too simple to do, but I have since discovered that the pH of our muck up is very alkaline (us current on the side of a volcano to the old hat skim milk). During the past year, I was demanding to cut the alkalinity of the Sully with a garden non-specialized sulfur, but this does not seem to have worked. Again, no flowers / sepals this year. I checked the pH again tarnished, and it is still alkaline because a year ago.I do not think so radical as to uproot the tree and replant it in a matter of waste acid bases as I am aware that magnolias do not transplant, but I'm a breakdown of what I could do. Do you have suggestions about how to define the right of this mess? I tangible Mount Gambier in south-east of SA. Any help / exhortation would be greatly appreciated....
