Do bird of paradise trees attract rats?

Can someone tell me, what type of trees, that I have ?

 I have these trees sprouting up like weeds. They come of age really fast and they put off a very piercing odor when you cut them down. I have seen them all over city here in Texas. Some people call them bird of paradise trees, but I be acquainted with that's wrong.

 Tree of Islands sky? It smells vaguely of peanut butter when it's cut. Grows like dotty and it hard to kill. Looks variety of like sumac when it's inexperienced.
Not sure why they call it "the Blessed", then.
